Mountain Mumma

Mountain Mumma

cowgirl storyteller

Mountain Mumma is married to western artist, John de Jong. They have five grown children and are enjoying a busy “retirement”. Mumma grew up a weekend cowgirl on the family’s cattle ranch, not far from where she now lives in southeastern British Columbia, Canada.  In her early life the ranch did not have electricity nor indoor plumbing so on Saturday evenings friends and neighbours stopped by to visit and swap stories of the “good ol’ days”. This was where Mumma’s love of storytelling began and she uses some of those old stories in her presentations.  An offshoot of these story evening stories is her interest in researching and sharing lesser known events from the settlement of western Canada. Mumma has a wide variety of tales in her repertoire ranging from stories taken from her own life, past and present, to local and Western Canadian history and Sunday-Go-To-Meetin’ topics. Many of her stories are humourous or have a surprise twist but when it comes to history she is dead serious!
